E-Mobility Milestone in Berlin: JOLT Energy Launches First Battery-Buffered HPC Offering at Leipziger Platz

Ultra-fast charging on public land in the centre of Berlin made possible independently of grid capacity for the first time

Munich, 8 December 2025 – JOLT Energy, an expert in urban HPC charging, has now launched Berlin's first battery-buffered high-power charging service on public land at Leipziger Platz. The installation marks a significant milestone for urban charging infrastructure, showing that ultra-fast charging is possible even in places that previously lacked sufficient grid capacity. The facility requires neither a medium-voltage connection nor a transformer. It was installed on a small footprint in less than twelve months.

The new HPC solution at Leipziger Platz delivers charging power of up to 300 kilowatts. When used simultaneously, two vehicles can each receive up to 150 kilowatts. The integrated battery buffer ensures reliable delivery of high power without placing a burden on the city's grid. EV drivers can also use all common payment methods, from credit and debit cards to Google and Apple Pay, as well as charging and fleet cards. Typical charging sessions take between 15 and 30 minutes, allowing significantly more charges per day than conventional AC stations.

Powerful charging service for urban needs

Berlin's city centre is a prime example of the challenges other cities face too: densely built-up urban areas often lack both space for large technical installations and powerful grid connections. At the same time, many city residents have no parking spaces of their own and therefore rely on dependable public fast-charging options. Professional users such as taxi and ride-hailing services, as well as parcel and courier vehicles, also need rapid charging in the heart of the city to maintain operational efficiency. The new installation at Leipziger Platz meets precisely these needs, creating a high-performance charging option close to the city centre that fits flexibly into limited urban space.

With its uniform, citywide concept for charging infrastructure in public spaces, the Berlin Senate sets the framework for standard and fast charging facilities operated by different providers. The capital is thus sending a clear signal in favour of modern charging solutions that can be implemented quickly and have an immediate impact.

Arne Herz, Berlin's State Secretary for Mobility and Transport, explains: “Public street charging options are steadily increasing, but the charging technology used is also becoming more diverse, supporting the transition to alternative powertrains in different parts of Berlin. The first charging facility with integrated buffer storage brings another innovation to the charging network, enabling grid-friendly fast charging at busy locations. I sincerely thank the company for its commitment to expanding charging infrastructure.”

"The new site is a real breakthrough: we are bringing ultra-fast charging to places where conventional HPC solutions have so far fallen short," says Jörg Lohr, CEO of JOLT Energy. "Our battery-buffered system enables fast charging right in the city centre, without lengthy construction periods or expensive grid-expansion projects. This is an important step for people's everyday lives and for the mobility transition as a whole." JOLT Energy plans to further expand a city-wide network of battery-buffered HPC sites in the heart of Berlin. "We invite owners of private land to develop potential locations with us. This is particularly true of busy areas with heavy traffic, where ultra-fast charging offers immediate added value," Lohr stresses.
