- Municipal and commercial site operators receive fast-charging stations from JOLT without having to invest in or operate them themselves
Munich, Dublin & London, May 9, 2023 – The electric-mobility company JOLT Energy GmbH (JOLT), a pioneer in operating battery-buffered ultra-fast charging stations in urban areas, is expanding: Thousands of fast-charging stations will be installed in European and North American cities over the coming years. The Munich- and Dublin-based company announced this on May 9, 2023. By expanding ultra-fast charging infrastructure, JOLT aims to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and make a significant contribution to addressing the climate crisis.
JOLT is revolutionising ultra-fast EV charging in urban areas by combining charging stations with battery storage. JOLT stations delivering up to 320 kW can be connected to the existing low-voltage grid. Batteries integrated into the stations provide additional power for charging and make it possible to add enough electricity for up to 100 kilometres of range in just five minutes. With JOLT, cities and site partners can rapidly build fast-charging infrastructure without extensive construction work or additional grid upgrades.
The development of a comprehensive fast charging network is being made possible by the completion of a major funding round with InfraRed Capital Partners (InfraRed), a leading international infrastructure investment manager. InfraRed has invested €150 million in JOLT through a capital allocation to support the company's growth. JOLT was advised by financial adviser Nomura Greentech. The transaction closed on 5 May 2023.
Maurice Neligan, CEO of JOLT: “With InfraRed, JOLT has found a financing partner that supports the construction of pioneering infrastructure and paves the way for a decisive shift in electric mobility. Our ultra-fast charging stations with powerful battery storage are the missing link in accelerating the energy and transport transitions in cities. These charging systems are essential to enabling city residents to realise the full potential of electric vehicles.”
Stephane Kofman, Partner and Head of Capital Gain Funds at InfraRed: "Investment in fast EV charging infrastructure fits our approach to supporting a low-carbon future. InfraRed has many years of experience investing in renewable energy and batteries. With our investment in JOLT, we are focusing on a sector with attractive growth potential. Expanding the ultra-fast charging network will make it easier for people to adopt electric vehicles. We are proud to work with JOLT and do our part to decarbonize transport."
JOLT Energy, a leading charge point operator (CPO), was founded in 2018 and focuses on urban areas. Three out of four Europeans live in these areas, where they usually lack adequate EV charging options. The company's aim is to provide reliable ultra-fast charging for electric vehicle drivers in metropolitan areas over the coming years. Its first sites in German cities are already operational; another 100 are set to follow by the end of the year.
JOLT's charging stations are primarily installed in central, publicly accessible and busy urban locations, such as supermarket car parks. The company offers ultra-fast charging solutions with power of up to 320 kW, making its charging network one of the fastest on the market.
Thanks to integrated battery storage, JOLT charging stations can be connected to almost any low-voltage AC grid without major construction work, helping to stabilise the grid at regional level. JOLT is helping accelerate the transition to widespread electric mobility, achieve climate goals and reduce air and noise pollution in cities.
JOLT wants to work with both cities and commercial businesses such as supermarkets, restaurants and petrol stations to install charging stations in central locations for electric-vehicle drivers. These partnerships can make cities more attractive places to locate. Commercial site partners, in turn, have the opportunity to improve customer satisfaction and generate additional revenue.
