JOLT tests charging infrastructure in residential neighbourhoods
Fast charging in Munich needs to be available where people actually go in their daily lives. That is exactly what we are currently working on in the Harthof neighbourhood. Since December 2025, we have operated a high-power charger at Neuherbergstraße 109 and, together with strong partners, have been exploring how urban charging infrastructure can be integrated reliably, efficiently and conveniently into existing residential areas.
The site is part of the EU's ASCEND project. Harthof, in the north of Munich, is to be developed into an energy-positive neighbourhood. This is a particularly exciting use case for us because urban planning, the energy transition and electric mobility come together directly here.
Why fast charging in residential areas matters
Demand for public charging infrastructure is growing. At the same time, many cities lack suitable options in the very places where people live, work and begin their journeys. Fast charging in Munich is therefore not just a technical question. It is also about everyday convenience, the use of space and sensible integration into established neighborhoods.
That is exactly where we come in. We want to bring fast charging to where people need it in their daily lives. Not to the outskirts, but right into the heart of the city.
The Harthof site as a real-world test
For us, Neuherbergstraße 109 is more than a single charging point. The site is a practical test of how High Power Charging can fit into an existing residential area. It is not just about charging power but also about how urban charging infrastructure is received and integrated in practice.
This is particularly relevant to us because several requirements come together in Harthof: high-performance charging, limited space, intensive use and a close connection to everyday life in the neighbourhood.
Working with strong partners towards the next phase
What makes this project particularly special for us is our collaboration with UnternehmerTUM, Münchner Wohnen and the City of Munich. Here, technological implementation, scientific support and municipal practice come together.
This is precisely the combination we need if we want not only to build urban charging infrastructure but also to develop it in a future-proof way. Projects like this help us better understand how neighbourhood fast charging can be planned, implemented and scaled.
A blueprint for urban charging infrastructure
For us, the Harthof site is therefore much more than a one-off project. It can show how fast charging in Munich could become an even more integral part of urban neighbourhoods in the future. If charging infrastructure works where people live, it creates a model for other locations.
Together with our project partners, we are bringing the energy transition to the places where people can feel its impact: right into their neighbourhoods. This is where the future practicality and accessibility of electric mobility will be decided.
