Charging station roaming: Charge flexibly
How does charging station roaming work? Charge your electric car flexibly everywhere with just one card or app ➔ Read more at JOLT!

Charge your EV easily with roaming
Anyone who regularly charges an electric car knows the situation: the battery is running low, but the nearest available station belongs to an unfamiliar provider. Rather than downloading another charging app or signing up on the spot, charging station roaming can help.
What has worked smoothly for mobile phones abroad for years also makes charging easier. You can use your usual card or app across a wide variety of charging networks. As a Charge Point Operator (CPO), JOLT deliberately embraces open systems to remove barriers in everyday urban life. Find out here how EV charging roaming works, what costs it involves and why open networks make charging more convenient.
How roaming at charging stations works behind the scenes
The entire system is based on a digital exchange of data between two key players. On one side is the Charge Point Operator, such as JOLT, which installs and operates the physical fast-charging station in the city. On the other is your Mobility Service Provider (MSP), with whom you have your regular charging contract.
As soon as you connect your vehicle to a charging point and scan your card, the systems verify authorisation in the background. Independent platforms such as Hubject enable this communication in real time. Charging-card roaming means you do not notice any of the technical processes: the electricity starts flowing straight away.
Prices and transparency for EV roaming
Transparent costs are a key factor in making charging practical in everyday life. With EV roaming, your own provider primarily determines the price per kilowatt-hour. Depending on the provider, however, additional roaming fees may apply when using another operator's infrastructure.
At JOLT, we not only support conventional roaming at our charging stations but always offer you a flexible alternative. If you do not have your usual card to hand, simply use ad hoc charging. Every station accepts major credit cards as a direct payment method, with no commitment and no hidden surcharges. You can easily keep track of the relevant costs in our JOLT app.
Ultra-fast charging meets open charging networks
Modern charging infrastructure must fit flexibly into urban life. Nobody wants to spend ages looking for a suitable station or waste valuable time waiting. That is why JOLT combines ultra-fast charging with unrestricted access.
Our smart charging stations, such as MerlinOne, have integrated battery storage and deliver up to 320 kW of power. This lets you add enough energy for up to 200 km of range in just ten minutes. Because the system is fully integrated into charging-station roaming, every driver can access this high charging speed.
Commercial benefits for site partners
Open charging networks bring tangible commercial benefits to businesses that provide space. If you work with JOLT as a site partner (for example, as the operator of a petrol station, supermarket or restaurant), you directly benefit from this accessibility:
- Higher utilization of charging points, as drivers from all networks can find the station through their usual charging app
- Additional customers for your core business, as drivers use the ten-minute charging time for a quick shop
- A worry-free process without financial risk, as JOLT takes care of all planning, financing and operations
The future of urban mobility belongs to open networks
In the long run, urban mobility only works if it remains straightforward and reliable. Charging station roaming takes the complexity out of everyday electric driving. It makes charging as easy as refuelling, regardless of who operates the station.
Use charging-station roaming on your next trip, benefit from fast, open networks and experience the future of electric mobility first-hand. Get your vehicle ready for your next road trip and charge easily at one of our JOLT stations today!
