As a rule, JOLT always provides the most powerful technology. Our MerlinOne charger, for example, is a high-power charger with a power output of 300 kW. Unlike standard AC chargers, MerlinOne offers ten times faster charging.
However, whether an electric vehicle can fully utilise this immense power is primarily determined by the car’s battery management system (BMS). Every vehicle model has a maximum charging speed determined by the manufacturer in terms of hardware and software, to protect the internal cell structures of the battery from overheating or premature wear. If a vehicle is technically limited to a maximum power intake of 100 kW, it won’t be able to charge any faster even at a 300 kW station.
Even if a modern electric vehicle supports extremely high charging power, the charging speed does not remain constant throughout the entire process. To understand these physical fluctuations, you need to understand the charging curve.
In short: At a very low battery level, the battery initially absorbs the power rapidly. However, the fuller the battery gets, the more the BMS reduces the power supply.
For your everyday life, this means: It’s particularly efficient to quickly charge your EV to 60-80% at our stations so you can seamlessly continue with your day. You can then easily charge the rest to 100% at home in the evening. External factors like extreme heat or cold additionally affect the charging curve, as batteries work best at specific optimal temperatures.
