Ultra-fast charging on public land in central Berlin now realized for the first time without relying on grid capacity<\/i><\/p>

Munich, 8 December 2025\u00a0\u2013 <\/b>JOLT Energy<\/b><\/a>, a specialist in urban HPC charging, has commissioned Berlin\u2019s first battery-buffered high-power charging installation on public land at Leipziger Platz. The project marks a major milestone for urban charging infrastructure, demonstrating that ultra-fast charging is possible even in locations previously limited by insufficient grid capacity. The system operates without a medium-voltage connection or transformer and was implemented on a small footprint in under twelve months.<\/b><\/p>

The new HPC solution at Leipziger Platz delivers charging power of up to 300 kilowatts. When two vehicles charge simultaneously, each has access to up to 150 kilowatts. The integrated battery buffer ensures stable high-power delivery while protecting the city grid from additional load. EV drivers can use all common payment methods, including credit and debit cards, Google and Apple Pay, as well as charging and fleet cards. Typical charging sessions last between 15 and 30 minutes – enabling significantly more daily charging operations than conventional AC chargers.<\/p>

High-performance charging for urban requirements<\/b><\/p>

Berlin\u2019s city centre exemplifies the challenges many cities face: densely built-up areas often lack both space for large technical installations and access to powerful grid connections. At the same time, many residents do not have private parking and therefore depend on reliable public fast-charging facilities. Professional users such as taxi and ride-hailing services, parcel delivery and courier fleets also require rapid charging options in the heart of the city to maintain operational efficiency. The new installation at Leipziger Platz meets exactly these requirements, providing a high-performance, centrally located charging option that fits flexibly into limited urban space.<\/p>

The Berlin Senate has established a citywide, uniform concept for public charging infrastructure covering both AC and fast-charging stations operated by a range of providers. With this framework, the capital is sending a clear signal in favour of modern charging solutions that can be deployed quickly and deliver immediate impact.<\/p>

Arne Herz, State Secretary for Mobility and Transport in Berlin, explains: \u201cCharging options in public streets are steadily increasing, and the variety of charging technologies is also expanding, supporting the transition to sustainable propulsion across different parts of Berlin. With the first charging installation featuring an integrated buffer storage system, another innovation is now being introduced that enables grid-friendly fast charging in highly frequented locations. I would like to sincerely thank the company for its commitment to expanding Berlin\u2019s charging infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cThis new location is a real breakthrough: we are bringing ultra-fast charging to places where traditional HPC solutions have not been feasible,\u201d says Joerg Lohr, CEO of JOLT Energy. \u201cOur battery-buffered system enables fast charging in the middle of the city\u2014without long construction processes or costly grid expansion projects.
